FHUP On Sunday 28 May 2023 a Community Service (PKM) activity was carried out at the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore, this activity was the first PKM activity carried out abroad, the PKM activity was attended by approximately 120 Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) who work in Singapore Of course, this service aims to provide legal knowledge to Indonesian citizens working in Singapore so that they know the legal protection rights of PMI in Singapore as well as understanding Singaporean legal regulations relating to migrant workers in Singapore.
The PKM event was opened directly by the Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore H.E Suryo Pratomo, in his speech the Ambassador said he really welcomed the PKM activities carried out by FHUP at the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore, because PMIs really need to understand employment law to prevent things that could harm their rights. PMIs in Singapore, it is recorded that there are several legal cases faced by PMIs in Singapore, one of the reasons being the PMIs’ ignorance regarding PMIs’ rights as migrant workers. The Ambassador hopes that FHUP can continue community service in the form of providing direct assistance to legal cases faced by these PMI. PKM was also attended by the Dean of FHUP Prof. Dr. Eddy Pratomo, SH., MA who gave introductory remarks, in his speech the Dean said that this PKM activity was a form of FHUP’s contribution to the State in helping provide legal knowledge and legal assistance to the country’s foreign exchange contributors, namely PMI in Singapore. Next, the activity continued with providing material on protecting PMI rights with resource person, FHUP lecturer Dr. Adnan Hamid, SH., MH. As a labor practitioner and academic as well as another resource person, Hasbullah, SH., MH as chairman of LKBH. PKM activities were active, there were 6 PMIs who asked questions ranging from non-structural PMI issues to problems related to the structural PMI process. At the end of the event, an MoU was agreed between FHUP and the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore to continue PKM activities and also research activities that were mutually beneficial for the parties.
