Academics Accompany Lemongrass Ginger and Banana Chips Products Made in KWT Cibuntu

KUNINGAN – Academics from the University of Indonesia, Pancasila University and the Islamic University of Bandung provided assistance to MSME products produced by women’s farmer groups from Cibuntu Village, Pasawahan District, Kuningan Regency.

The assistance was focused on trademarks and halal certification of ginger, lemongrass and banana chips.

The mentoring team for the FHUI, UP, and UNISBA communities collaborated with resource persons from the IPR registration and from the halal certification provider from the Ministry of Religion.

The head of the community service team, Dr. Gemala Dewi, S.H.LL.M, from the University of Indonesia, said

since the enactment of Law no. 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Guarantee, currently all food products, cosmetics and other products that may be consumed by the majority of Muslims in Indonesia must be certified Halal and have a halal label.

“Especially for MSMEs, then there are ease arrangements with the issuance of Law No. 11 of 2020 concerning Job Creation that halal certification specifically for micro and small business actors (UMK) can be carried out through a self-declaring mechanism with the help of a halal companion from an institution regulated by the Ministry of Religion/BPJPH. , said Gemala Dewi

He added, to increase the selling power of MSME products, efforts should also be made to register trademarks, so that they can also increase people’s income.

Based on information from KWT activists in Cibuntu Village, the composition of Jasreh is only ginger, lemongrass, spices and rock sugar, each of which has quality ingredients to obtain quality and healthy products for consumers.

“Jasreh is the village’s superior product that has not yet obtained the brand rights even though it is currently in the process of halal certification. Apart from Jasreh, there are also various processed bananas,” he said.

The banana chips contain a composition of ingredients that are included in the positive list materials and are made in a simple way.

“Unfortunately, the product has not been branded nor has it been certified halal, thus reducing the confidence of business actors to produce their goods, which of course results in lowering the quality of product promotion,” he said.

His party admitted that they regretted this condition, given the enormous potential of the village in the sustainability of Muslim-friendly tourism.

In addition to Gemala Dewi, by cooperating with two students from the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia, namely Istianah and Aufa Saffanah, the PKM also collaborated with Dr. Zaitun Abdullah, S.H., M.H. from Pancasila University and Dr. Neneng Nurhasanah, Dra., M. Hum. from the Islamic University of Bandung.

On the other hand, partners in this service are the Women Farmers Group (KWT) which is part of the Tourism Awareness Group (POKDARWIS) in one of the village government institutions.

“This program is funded by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education with the theme of Education and Assistance in Mark Registration and Halal Certification Through Self-Declare Mechanism for Ginger and Lemongrass Products (JASREH) in Cibuntu Tourism Village, Pasawahan District, Kuningan Regency,” he said.

Gemala said the purpose of holding PKM was, among others, to carry out research as well as service in accordance with the Tri Darma of higher education through providing education and making people aware, especially food product business actors in Kuningan Regency, especially Cibuntu Village.

What was conveyed was about the importance of fulfilling halal production standardization in accordance with sharia provisions based on statutory regulations and DSN-MUI fatwas.

“Then, is to increase the number of halal-certified food products in Kuningan Regency, especially Banana Chips in Cibuntu Tourism Village, as one of the world’s halal tourist destinations,” he said again.

Third, this PKM aims to improve the quality of product promotion and the competitiveness of Muslim-friendly halal destinations in Kuningan Regency, especially in the Cibuntu Tourism Village, through the fulfillment of the registration of Jasreh and Banana Chips product brands as well as Banana Chips halal certification in supporting the Halal Tourism Village program as one of the requirements for Muslim-friendly halal destinations.

Meanwhile, the Head of Cibuntu Village, H. Layman hopes that this activity can have an impact on increasing income and becoming one of the global local products. (Nars)
