Social media is an open space for anyone. Various types of social media that are currently developing also need to be accompanied by increasing public understanding in using social media in a good and safe manner. Although there is a social media space that can be managed closed, there are still gaps in publishing it and what we share is consumed by many people of all ages.
As a legal reference for the use of social media, Law no. 11 of 2016 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE), even the existence of this Law has begun to be realized by the general public through many legal cases, both involving public figures, government officials and the public. One of the factors in the occurrence of legal cases in the use of social media is poor emotional management.
In order to increase knowledge and understanding of good social media from a legal perspective so that the realization of a law-conscious society and the creation of a legal culture, it is necessary to carry out community service activities in the form of legal counseling to the community, one of which is to teenagers who are very active users of social media.
The activity which was initiated by the UKM Legal Debate SEMA FH-KMUP in collaboration with SMAN 26 Jakarta and the Research and Community Service Unit FHUP presented Dr. Rocky Marbun S.H., M.H as the Head of the FHUP Legal Clinic who delivered the material entitled “Safe surfing on social media: Humans and Simulacra” in his presentation stated that everyone has the right to voice on social media, but what is needed is the choice of words and sentences so that they do not meet the elements in the law -law. In Indonesia, there are several legal instruments related to the use of social media, namely Law 11/2008; Law 19/2016; and the Decree of the Ministry of Information, the Attorney General, and the National Police Chief. In his material, Dr. Rocky also said that in order to surf safely on social media, at least always use illustrations, disguise the intended context, set contextuality and use subject pronouns.
Reinforce material Dr. Rocky, Martha, S. Psi., Psy. As the second resource person who is a lecturer at the Faculty of Psychology, Gunadarma University, he delivered the material “Social Media in the Digital Era” which focused on the discussion on the role of adolescents and their interactions in the media. He said that there are positive and negative impacts of social media. In a psychological perspective, the use of social media is for 1) a medium for self-existence; 2) Self Disclosure; 3) personalize yourself.
This activity was also attended by Deputy Dean III of FHUP Wibisono Oedoyo, S.H., M.H. and Deputy Head of SMAN 26 Jakarta in the field of Sarpras and collaboration DR. Rosita Medina, M.M., as well as representatives from the FH-KMUP student body.
